I have received a lot of questions over the last few weeks around our end user computing plans, most of which have been concerning the lifecycle management (LCM) of our desktops and laptops. I intend to provide some clarity on our planned approach and give you key contacts to help if you have questions.
Lilly has been planning a Win 10 upgrade for some time and many of you would have been involved in Piloting and application testing. The disentanglement does complicate matters slightly with many considerations on the impact for Elanco to continue with Lilly’s plans, not least a $6.5M price tag for the effort.
First though, let’s separate out the two issues I get questions about:
WIN 10 READINESS TESTING
We should continue to test our applications and ensure they’re Windows 10 compliant. Even though we will not follow the planned upgrade with Lilly, when Elanco devices are ready to be deployed, they will be Windows 10 only and your applications MUST be ready and compatible/compliant.
Key Contact: Mike Garver - Mike is running this program globally and will be happy to take your questions.
WIN 10 UPGRADES / LCM
We will not be replacing Elanco machines proactively at this time. There are a few different scenarios (mapped below) where machines may need to be replaced or upgraded or provisioned. Whilst I realise this will not be popular, this drove significant cost savings in replacing all machines with Lilly devices to then have to buy new machines all over again 9-12 months later.
Key Contacts: Please work with your Region / Hub / Affiliate IT Manager - They have been briefed on each scenario and will be happy to take your questions.
WIN 10 SCENARIOS
Elanco Stock = new machines we buy to pre-empt LCM or Break/Fix events. This stock will be held by the Site Services leaders for each Zone:
Zone 1 = Mike Garver
Zone 2 = Andy Mellors
Zone 3 = Henry Lim / Michael Wu
Manufacturing = Scott Chapell
NB: All new machines purchased need to be purchased through Lilly. The ETS team will be purchasing the machines through the TSA and therefore new machines will not be charged to local cost centres at this time. Lilly will still be responsible for the machine build and deployment at this time.
