ETS Bi-Weekly Update

After our last bumper edition update, today we have a slightly shorter round-up of ETS activities:

Network Services - Paul Graham
Phase 2 of the engagement process with WWT kicked off last week with a focus on “Sprint C” encompassing Network, Co-location (the physical locations where we will bring Elanco’s core network services together) and Test Lab services.  These will be the foundational elements we build upon to deliver many of the IT services for the business.

The Lab build is nearing completion and will deliver a model of the Elanco environment with links to key cloud providers, allowing us to test critical networks and applications prior to use in production.  Similarly, we will also be able to test and tune our state-of-the-art site connectivity service proposal (SDWAN) here, which allows fine adjustments of network usage to suit differing application needs.  We expect to have the initial build of the production Co-locations online by the end of Q3 2019.

In parallel, there is a huge amount of effort going in to the site connectivity workstream, where we are assessing a number of providers who are all keen to win our network business.

Identity – Calum Bell
Recently in the Identity space we ran a series of workshops at our HQ, bringing in Industry experts to review and analyse our designs. The focus of these sessions was to validate our design using use cases which I have collected from the wider business over the past ten weeks. Some of the most popular use cases were:

  • Acquisitions
  • Divestments
  • Promotions
  • System ID aliasing

Each of these use cases were validated and proven to be not only functional in our new architecture but more often than not, much more efficient (Both for the admin and the user awaiting access). An example of which is the time taken for a small acquisition of Identities from a new company averages four hundred hours, in our future state we are targeting just two days.

All of this then culminated to the delivery of a set of presentations to the Advisor group and then in turn, to the IT Lead Team. The outcomes of which were very positive and highlighted even more use cases to go and review.

The next steps in this space will be to begin working closely with Security and Global Services to ensure that these workstreams with key dependencies are in lockstep with one another moving forwards.

Collaboration - Jo Joss
ETS were in Greenfield last week, and as part of our agenda we ran a number of demo and discussion sessions with both IT and business partners around the topic of collaboration and communication tooling for the new Elanco. We gathered some great insights into the different requirements that these tools would have to meet and have handed these over along with some suggested collaboration ecosystems to our consultants at WWT. They’re currently working on some recommendations of tool sets, and we expect to see some drafts of these next week. Stay tuned for updates!

Workplace Services - Jo Joss
We kicked off the large topic of workplace services with WWT on Wednesday with a very productive session where we worked through the different Elanco User personas and needs of each business area. Workplace services is a huge space with many overlaps onto different work streams. We need to consider not just end user devices like laptops or mobiles, and the software which runs on them, but everything from printers to telephony too! Not to mention how these relate to security and identity and the network. Next week we begin deeper dives into each of these spaces with the relevant parties, and WWT are aiming to deliver us some recommendations of technology options in each of these spaces, as well as how the whole architecture fits together.

Productivity – Tom Burton
We are running a workshop with WWT next week to assess what our future Productivity tools (e.g. email, documents, presentations) could be, and how they connect with the direction we are going in for Collaboration. Our aim is to ensure that our productivity tools work well with the tools you are using to collaborate. Once the evaluation is done, we will share that with key stakeholders to get some reactions before we communicate broadly. Shortly following that, we will begin to plan how to implement these tools, which as you can imagine starts to get complex when moving users over to the new solutions.
