2019 Design Trends

Design in 2019 will stretch the way we’ve worked for years. As society begins to embrace more and more digital elements, it will allow bold design to become more main- stream. This year will bring many opportunities that encourage flat design to become virtual and new ideas to become prototypes faster than ever.

Don’t be afraid to get uncomfortable in your designs this year. It’s not trendy, it’s the trend.

Micro Animations
Micro animations are big on the trend list for this year and an area we’ll be looking to expand in. Micro animations are brief animations designed to direct the user through tasks as they interact with a digital product. Ultimately, micro animations will enhance the user’s sense of direct manipulation while also helping the user visualize the results of their actions.

Here are a couple different ways that micro animations will help users:

System status: With a flash here and a twitch there, the user always knows where they stand in the process. The animations will assist users through software at key junctures.

Recognition: Movements, objects, and options, can prompt users to take actions without overwhelming them. The goal is to prompt in recognition of a visual pattern as opposed to having to recall a process.

Boldness
Does bold sound like a dirty word to you? It shouldn’t. Bold can mean lots of things, and in some design it screams confidence and ahead of the competition. Trying new designs, new functionality, new tactics can be daunting at first. Step out and see how bold colors, shapes, and even bold marketing could work for you. It’s never been a better time.

Natural Photos
Natural and candid become to path to creating real human connections for image media content. Audiences want to be able to see real people completing real tasks that aren’t posed and proper, rather more like everyday life. You can connect better with your audience by incorporating these into your materials. Check out free stock photos at unsplash.com.

Inclusivity
The world is a place for everyone and that should reflect in your projects. Having large audiences is often difficult to define what marketing techniques are best, but don’t forget that there are also individuals with disabilities out there too. It may be an age, profession, or location that you’re targeting, but we also will be working towards better accessibility online. Check out this article that details accessibility for users.

Minimalism
Clean design will likely never go out of style. Much like interior design, getting rid of clutter and things not needed around the house is a lot like your web and applications. If there are too many elements or too much information on your communications, it will be hard for the audience to focus on the true reason you are reaching out to them. Make sure that you use a good balance of white and negative space and minimize the number of fonts and colors.
