We know there have been lots of questions surrounding file migration, sharing and storage, and we hope to answer some of those in this article.
Important note:
At this stage no final decisions have been made and we are still exploring some options regarding governance of these tools. We also have not run our tenant migration POC which might provide additional information we have to take into consideration.
Basically, this information is subject to change.
This slide deck talks to some of the key questions which have been posed around SharePoint, OneDrive, Teams and O365 groups
- What tools can be used for which use case?
- How much storage space does each tool allow?
- What controls are available for each product?
- Where will documents move from and to?
- What could go wrong?
- What will the future look like for life cycling?
- When will things happen?
As you can see from the final slide, not all controls and governance will be set up from Day One of the migration. This means that there are some capabilities where we are still exploring tooling options.
For example, we know how important external sharing is to the business, and we are looking carefully as to whether we will be ready to provide this capability from day one in our new tenant. We also suspect that folders which are shared externally may be more difficult to identify and migrate.
If this proves to be true, then we are exploring other options like retaining Box a little longer for external collaboration, though this will heavily depend on TSA end dates etc.
